Second Success

Lawndale students had the opportunity to submit an art project based on Texas Panhandle Natural Beauty. Finalists were mailed to the office of State Representative Four Price.

Biography of Four Price

Born and raised in the Texas Panhandle, State Representative Walter T. Price, IV - known as "Four" since childhood - is honored to serve the people of Texas' House District 87, which consists of Carson, Hutchinson, Moore, Potter, and Sherman counties.

Price is currently serving his second term as State Representative. He was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2010 with 77 percent of the general election vote. In 2012, voters proudly re-elected Price by the same margin.

A fourth generation Texan, Price brings to the Texas Capitol a strong sense of conservative values and a deep love of the Lone Star State. As a young man, he learned the importance of one's word and the value of a dollar by working on area farms and ranches. These same character traits of integrity, hard-work, and results-oriented leadership define Price's advocacy for his constituents at the Texas Capitol. He is committed to the principles contained in our nation's Constitution - faith, liberty, personal responsibility, and limited government.

Price currently serves on the House Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for helping shape the state's balanced budget. He was appointed by the Committee Chair to serve on the Article II Subcommittee which pertains to health and human services. Price is also a member of the House Licensing & Administrative Procedures Committee and the House Select Committee on Transparency in State Agency Operations. All of these committee assignments provide Price the opportunity to review the best practices of state agencies and to hold our state government accountable to and working for the people of Texas. The Select Committee, a newly-created House committee, has eight members and is responsible for overseeing transparency in the reporting of financial transactions of judicial and executive state agencies as well as affiliated groups.

Price continues his work as a member of the Sunset Advisory Commission, to which he was appointed in 2012. The Commission, a twelve member legislative body, reviews the internal operations of agencies and makes recommendations to the legislature as to whether an agency should continue to exist and, if so, how their functions can be made more effective and efficient.

Price is also an active member of the following caucuses in the Texas House of Representatives: Community College Caucus, Republican Caucus, Rural Caucus, Sportsman's Caucus, Tourism Caucus, and Veterans Caucus.

During his first term as State Representative, Price successfully passed into law landmark legislation that addresses the safety of public school athletes by emphasizing brain health and concussion prevention. House Bill 2038, known as "Natasha's Law" won praise as one of the most comprehensive state laws in the nation designed to protect public school athletes. It received strong support from parents, health professionals, coaches, athletic trainers, and student athletes, as well as notable college and pro-athletes and the National Football League. In 2011, Price also passed several bills concerning state water policy. Further, he supported and will continue to advocate for legislation protecting life, private property rights, small businesses, and our Second Amendment rights.

Price graduated from Tascosa High School in Amarillo. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Texas at Austin and a law degree with high honors from St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio. Price currently works as a partner at Irwin, Merritt, Hogue, Price & Carthel, P.C., a business law firm in Amarillo. As a small business owner, Price understands the numerous challenges all businesses face on a daily basis, including finances, regulations, and taxes. Price brings this pro-business understanding to bear when analyzing and considering how proposed laws will impact job creation and economic development in both the Panhandle and across the state.

Price and his wife Karen reside in Amarillo with their four children. Price's two oldest children attend Texas public universities and his two youngest are enrolled in public schools in Amarillo. The Price family worships at the First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo.

Price, an avid sportsman, enjoys sharing his love and respect for the Texas outdoors and conservation with his family. One of Price's favorite quotes is from Sam Houston, who said, "Texas is the finest portion of the globe that has ever blessed my vision."
