This Week We Read Schools Then and Now
This nonfiction text gives readers practice with text features such as headings, the table of contents and forces them to understand that photographs are NOT the only way to decide whether or not a text is fiction or nonfiction. This text has two characters- Abbigail and Nick, who are cartoon characters. There are also black and white photographs throughout the text.
This wonderful book forces the reader to see that the REAL events in the text are what determines whether it is fiction or nonfiction.
Next Week
---------
We will be reading several versions of Stone Soup. I loved this story as a child. The message is still the same no matter which version you read-
If we all share a little, we can feed a village.
(or something along those lines)
